2 Months With Braces- The Good, The Bad and The Ouchie!

I am actually almost into my 2nd month with my braces. I got them on at the beginning of May. This, is what, June 20th?? Yeah, so, about 2 months.

I already had them tightened, once, a few weeks ago. But, before I got them tightened, I was eating pizza, for dinner, one night. I bit into it, the way I used to ( putting the pizza in my mouth, between my top and bottom inscisors.) then, I bit down. I felt my two middle, bottom inscisors move! I freaked out!

My teeth were in pain, so I called my ortho, first thing in the morning. He had me come in, that day, and checked the tooth that moved. They assured me teeth are constantly moving (which I knew), and careful what I eat. Cut up the pizza, next time. I should have known better. Lesson learned.

So, while I was there, I got my wires tightened. I was very excited about that! Nothing special, except this fang tooth, I have, grew in twisted. Instead of an elastic ligature, they put on a wire one, and twisted the wire, a bunch, to pull my tooth to it's normal position.

Then, I got silver elastic ligatures. I like silver, because it blends in well with the braces. This time I will get some color.

A few days went by, and my 3-year-old knocked her head into my tooth! Now, I have a huge fear of loosing my teeth, from a freak accident. When she did that, my tooth felt like it was going to come out. I felt like I needed X-rays! It didn't feel like the tooth adjacent to it. So, I called my ortho. Mary ( the secretary) is a sweetheart. She must have thought I was nuts! My second call, in a matter of days.

She said it was probably my teeth moving. But, My tooth felt weird, even when breathing. So, after having the ortho call me back, I decided to wait it out, then, if it didn't get better, I would call. They were going to open their office, after hours, for me, so I could have some X-rays. I didn't want them to go through all that. Guess what... It's all better.

Now, I've been seeing my teeth rounding out, nicely! My bite is getting much better. It feels strange, to bite down, and your bite is moving on you. I have jagged edges poking where they weren't, before. My molars are lining up, but biting down, it's a strange feeling. Like jelly. From the constant movement.

I like to look at my teeth in the mirror. The change that's happening is really cool! My smile already looks better! Having the braces gives me confidence, actually! I do not feel awkward with them on. I still talk to people the way I used to, with them, off. ( I hear a lot of people saying they feel socially awkward with their braces on.)

I have lost 20 pounds, in 2 months, with braces! I am eating much healthier foods. I am also wanting to look great, when I get my braces off. I only eat soft foods and the portion sizes are small. No sodas, wines, no smoking, no artificial foods. I am feeling great!

Keep you updated on next month!

Bands On

Yesterday I got my separators removed and my bands put on. Oh, that hurt!

First, they took out the blue separators, in my back molors. They were there, to make space for the bands. I was glad to have them out. My lower right molar was really achy, from moving around.
I then had to get measured for my bands. This process was painful. Taking a metal band, to fit around your molar, then shoving it way down, onto the gums. The band, is so the arch wire locks into place.

They found the right sized one. Then placed it on my already painful, moving teeth. I used what they call a, "bite stick," to bite the band way down onto my molar. Ouch!!! But, it didn't hurt throughout the day, like or I really didn't have to get used to them, over the next couple days. Except, for the foreign feeling on my tounge, from the inside of the band.

Other than that- they put the same arch wire back in, and I got aqua elastic color bands, because I was going to Florida.
